Through funding from the US-CDC, CCCRN partnered with regulatory agencies and pre service health training institutions to improve the training infrastructure, review curricula, leverage technology and build capacity of tutors to deliver competency based trainings for infectious diseases of interest in 13 Schools of Nursing and Colleges of Health Technology in Enugu, Imo and Ebonyi States.
Over 3,000 undergraduates were trained as at the end of the project and more continue to receive the benefits long thereafter. (2012 – 2014)
A five-year cooperative agreement with US-CDC to institutionalize in-service trainings for HIV management in Nigeria. CCCRN established ten training centers in tertiary health facilities located in Federal Capital Territory, Gombe, Nassarawa, Benue, Ekiti, Lagos Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers, Kaduna states. The project built capacity of existing hospital resource persons and improved the infrastructure at to integrate HIV/TB trainings and practicum into existing service delivery processes.
The project developed a curriculum and training program to build capacity of Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWS) to provide expanded care for HIV epidemic control. While more than 130 national trainers were trained, over 8,600 health care workers have received in-service trainings in Adult ART, Pediatric ART, PMTCT, HCT, TB/HIV and other trainings in Infectious diseases within the catchment area of the facility.
